      Brian’s Mediation Profile

What makes a lawyer who is selected for multiple years as one of the best in the U.S in family law? A blend of many things:

After earning his law degree Brian became licensed to practice law in the state of New Mexico in 1991, and since, he also become certified to practice in multiple Federal District and Appellate courts in the country.

In addition to completing several litigation training in both with the US Army and the National Institute of Trail Advocacy Program, Brian is a trained and experienced litigator.  He conducted dozens of criminal trials, as well as advocated numerous administrative cases in a variety of legal fields while working as an Army Judge Advocate at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, while serving on Active Duty and as Army Reservist in Germany, Panama, Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico.

Brian’s litigation experience extends to New Mexico in a variety of forms. He has conducted Personal Injury trails throughout New Mexico and multiple trials in Divorce and Family Law primarily in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Rio Rancho, but also in many venues throughout New Mexico.

Litigation skills are important to learn, acquire, and hone. However, few cases ever actually ever go to trial. What separates Brian from other lawyers is his commitment to obtaining quality resolution outside of the trial court process.

Brian selected a law school in the mid-1980s because it had one of the few Dispute Resolution programs then offered in the country.

Brian first trained as a mediator in 1988.  He was selected by the Head of the Center for Dispute Resolution at Willamatte College of Law in 1989, to work as his personal aide.  Brian earned a certificate in Dispute Resolution from Willamatte College of Law in 1991, at the same time he earned his law degree.

Brian has continued to contribute to his Dispute Resolution skills and training since then.  More recently, Brian completed the Basic Training for Collaborative Practice in 2005, completed a 40-hour training in mediation in 2008.

Brian is well known by his colleagues from a variety of professional backgrounds, for his continued, commitment to advancing dispute resolution in New Mexico.  Brian continues to complement and refine his dispute resolution skills through vigorous study and training.

Brian is a leader in New Mexico Dispute Resolution and has served as President and Board Member of the New Mexico Collaborative Practice group from 2005-2007.  He currently serves on the ADR committee for the State Bar of New Mexico.  He has conducted professional training of colleagues at multiple NM State Bar events and at training forms, both in New Mexico and nationally.
